REAL TALK: Lord Jamar About Drake Being A Soft Ass Rapper – “He Wouldn’t Have Popped Off In The 80′s Or 90′s. Dudes Would Have Looked At Him As Too Soft” (New Interview-Video December 2013)

http://www.vladtv.com - Famed radio host Star and Brand Nubian rapper Lord Jamar sat down with VladTV to discuss Jamar’s recent statements about gay having no place in hip-hop, and Star reveals where he stands in the situation. The conversation then moves into the Black Holocaust, which Star says shouldn’t be overshadowed by rappers pushing the gay agenda.

While speaking about street cred in current hip-hop, Drake’s name gets brought up, and both Star and Lord Jamar agree that groups like De La Soul paved the way for Drake.  They then explain how groups like A Tribe Called Quest set a new tone in hip-hop, as well as a new precedent for signing rap groups at the time.

This Hip Hop shit was made by masculine black and Latino males,” Jamar said. “This is the alpha male shit. Not even the beta male, who they’re pushing at us now. Your Drake’s and your fucking Kendrick Lamar’s. All these softer type of dudes. [Drake] can rhyme and all that, but trust me he wouldn’t have popped off in the 80′s or 90′s. Dudes would have looked at him as too soft. All that falsetto singing and all that type of shit. Dudes would have been like, ‘What the fuck?’ Even if he could sing good. Does he represent the alpha males? No. Is he the type you could see on the block running some shit? No. Was he one of those dudes that got his name running around the hood ringing bells? No.”
