Missy Elliot is back on the music scene. She recently dropped two new singles featuring frequent collaborator Timbaland. While she was taking a break from music the singer/rapper got a serious health scare when she came down with Graves disease, an autoimmune disorder.
She talks with Sway in the Morning about that difficult battle.
“I was scared,” she said. “Anybody that has Graves disease, you feel like you finna be outta here. And for me when you say you gotta take a radiation pill you think you really finna be outta here. You know, like what do I really have? And you gotta go through seeing my eyes change, and your hair fall out, your skin change. For me that was traumatic. I remember [being] in the studio with Monica doing ‘Everything to Me.’ And I couldn’t even write the words down because your nervous system breaks down. So you shake so bad. That was a difficult time.”
